Two takes on the mind of an artist...
Holly Peters & Melissa Metzler
July 16 - August 19, 2005
Artist's Reception Saturday, July 16, from 5 - 7 PM
I am delighted to present you with an opportunity to experience
the works of Melissa Metzler and Holly Peters, two women intent on speaking their mind via visual art.
Watercolor artist Melissa Metzler
says her watercolors all share one essential element, "They
are visual explorations of transitional states...
 |
I want to express vast, mysterious spaces filled with new beginnings,
sparks of life force, and persistence of purpose." |
A recent series of Metzler's triptych paintings were derived from her readings
and explorations on genetic engineering while on residency at Anderson Center in Red Wing, Minnesota.
Techno-traditional paper artist, Holly
Peters, "think(s) colors, shapes and stories really do feed
the soul." Her technique blends the traditional folk-art of Japanese cut paper with vector-based computer
graphics.
| "I often use a completed paper-cut as the basis for further exploration
using digital media," Holly explains. "This
combination of traditional and digital media allows me to retain the tactile aspect of more traditional materials
and processes, and yet allows for a latitude of experimentation… without loss of the original." |
|
Vibrant visual art is the means to bridge the communication gap according
to both of our next featured artists at Charlene's Gallery Ten - opening with a reception from 5 - 7 PM on Saturday, July 16.
We hope you will find time to meet Holly and Melissa in person, share some thought-provoking conversation, and
enjoy wine and cheese at our next show running through August 19.
